The head of state of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, closed Tuesday in Quito, the capital, the Latin Progressive Encounter (ELAP), with a call to stand firm and united to defend the transformation processes in the region against the conservative restoration. In a citizen in San Francisco concentration plaza, the president welcomed the fact that the realization of the forum coincided with the fourth anniversary of the attempted coup d'état in the South American nation on September 30, 2010, as a way of not forget it.
He remembered that day attempted to destabilize the country to bring down the government and thus slow down the process of change, to which the people took to the streets to defend the Citizen Revolution and democracy finally triumphed. Correa recalled the violence unleashed by the coup group which left five dead, including the young student Juan Pablo Bolanos, and hundreds injured.
Highlighted the depth of analysis that took place during the sessions ELAP forum that gathered at the House of Ecuadorian Culture representatives of 35 political parties and movements than twenty countries.
He also emphasized the importance of such appointments in which the unity of progressive forces is strengthened in order to further advance the transformation of the continent, and to counter the attacks of the conservative restoration.

After the meeting, the participants adopted a declaration in which they resolved to support the consolidation of political change and renew the program agenda for the future.
They further agreed radicalize democracy by practicing it in all its forms, expand participation processes within parties and movements, and promote active spaces for the political education of the young.
Additionally, they agreed to build a proactive agenda of the left to strengthen integration through mechanisms such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the Union of South American Nations and the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America.
